About

The Author

Is a lazy 20-something year old with many interests and not enough time to relax and write about them all. They go by the name ‘Aka’ which means many things depending on context. Some of Aka’s interests include Anime as one might have gathered from much of the websites content, Cars which only a small selection of people have probably noticed, Music, Computers, Science, Technology and just about anything that sounds interesting.

Aka has also had websites in the past and blogged before blogging was even a word, in fact, Aka dislikes very much the use of such a disgusting sounding word to describe websites. Aka’s first website went online in 1998, was hosted by XOOM and dedicated to Anime. Unfortunately this was back when people liked animated gifs that said “Under Construction” and thus Aka’s website was full of them. Eventually Aka came to realize that this was terrible and tacky and the website was removed from the internet and can no longer be found, though this would not have mattered as XOOM was bought by NBCi and they stopped hosting free websites.

Further into Aka’s career as a lazy website creator, Aka decided that hosting a website off ones dial-up connection was the greatest idea ever, and thus it was done. Using DynDNS’s services Aka managed to host a small website despite the dynamic nature of a dial-up connection. Perhaps 5 people visited this website, all them were surely disgusted by the sluggish response, even on their own dial-up connections due to Aka’s DC++ downloading habits saturating what little bandwidth was available. Over this time Aka learned how to use Apache and various “Content Management Systems” that were around at the time, most of which were programmed in perl.

All of Aka’s past websites have struggled due to laziness, however, this time around Aka has more purpose than ever and more dedication. So perhaps, just maybe OMGWebsite will be semi-successful!

Aka’s Figure Collecting

Aka started collecting figures not so long ago, back in May of 2008. Since then Aka has averaged 2.38 figures per month and still has a steadily growing collection. As such, writing more detailed information on a dynamically growing collection would require a lot of continual updates of this page, and Aka’s far too lazy to bother. So to keep updated, visit the Reviews and Unreviewed pages to get a list of figures currently owned, or visit the On Order page to see what’s upcoming!

(Writing in 3rd person is hard sometimes)

The Site

So now that you know a little bit about Aka, probably too much actually, lets talk about the site. OMGWebsite has had many incarnations in the past, forums, random link site, gallery, anything Aka felt was ‘cool’ at the time. None of the past incarnations however had any plan or purpose behind them, and the current incarnation was no exception, originally. The site was originally started really to complain about TAKI Corps terrible Horo, no seriously, Aka was really quite upset with that figure. Beyond that, Aka had very little plan with the site, but possibly due in part to that post the site morphed towards predominantly being an anime figure related site, though it’s always maintained the freedom to talk about whatever, fitting of the slogan “Whatever I want to talk about.”

Since the site is still rather young in it’s current realization the statistics aren’t exactly bragging material but they’re worth mentioning anyway due to consistent growth since the start. When the first post went up February 24, 2009, the site received 90 visitors over the course of the month, with an average of 18 per day over the 5 days the website had content during February, of these 90, 44 of them were unique visitors. The next month OMGWebsites traffic rose to 557 visitors, 355 of which were unique, however the daily average stayed at 18 visitors per day. April saw another surge in visitors rising nearly 3x the previous month to 1,404 visitors with 1,043 of them being unique.

Fast forward to August 2009, we can see that the total traffic has risen to 2,626 visitors over the duration of the month, averaging 84.7 visitors per day with 1,019 being unique. Indication that more users are returning to the site than previous months, which might indicate that OMGWebsite has formed a reader base, a group of people who actually check multiple times over the report period. Always a good thing to hear!

Fast forward to January 2010, we see the total traffic for this month to have hit a new record high of 7,774 visitors, with 61% of them being unique and an average of 250.8 visitors per day. A good rise over Augusts’ 5 months ago. The speed at which the site is growing has also picked up in part due to the use of Twitter as well as the aggregator on MyFigureCollection.Net. But a large part of the growth is due to more content being added to the site more often.

You may be asking yourself, “Why is that number so low? my website gets 50,000 hits!” well you answered your own question there. Hits and visitors are two different things, a hit is simply a request, any request, from a user on the server. A page is a request, a single image is a request, a page full of many images is many requests, all of this adds up to hits, but it doesn’t mean that many people have visited your site! A visitor is actually a single user. A visitor can have 1 or a million hits, but they’re still only one person, which is a much more useful metric when measuring how many users visit ones website.

To give some contrast to the above, as of writing this page (which requires 23 hits to load), OMGWebsite has received 1,498,195 hits and used a total of 33 GB of traffic. But over the same duration, the site has ‘only’ received 34,640 visitors with 20,127 of them being unique, requesting a total of 308,699 pages. Making visitors a much more realistic and thus useful statistic to quote.
