Spice & Wolf Vol.1 via Amazon

Spice & Wolf Vol.1 via Amazon

December 10, 2009  |  Anime, Entertainment

Spice and Wolf Volume 1 arrived yesterday in the mail from Amazon, unfortunately no slip cover was provided as per Yen Press’ ”Solution”. Should have cancelled my pre-order with Amazon and found somewhere else such as RightStuf to order from, as they’ll be including the proper cover with their orders.

The novel seem to be on par with just about any other decent novel which I hope is to be expected of such merchandise.  Still a disappointment thought about the cover, I can’t take it anywhere with me now.

Review: Max Factory’s Blanc Neige

December 7, 2009  |  Figure Reviews

Sometimes you just fall for a girl (or 3) in a bikini, a simple reason for sure, but I think a perfectly reasonable excuse. I’ve personally tried (and failed) to avoid buying sexy girls in bikinis because they’re generally quite plain figures, sexy, but lacking depth. Though I must say, they’re a lot simpler to explain than having a tail fetish.

This week I’m going to do something slightly different, a series of reviews for a series of figures. Let’s call it Max Factory’s Shining Tears Sexy Girls in Bikinis, today we’ll start off with Blanc Neige.

Review: Volks' Horo

Review: Volks’ Horo

November 30, 2009  |  Figure Reviews

Volks’ Horo is probably personally my most anticipated figure to date and will likely retain that title for a considerable period of time. As soon as I’d seen her I knew that I had to have her and continually updated the site (1, 2, 3, 4) with any and all information I could find, I was obsessed. Over the months the hype grew in my mind to impossible expectations, expectations the figure could never possibly live up to. The fear of my eventual disappointment grew and I started second guessing my decisions, would I really like this figure?

On Order: Bandai Drossel von Flugel

November 27, 2009  |  Figures On Order

I pounced at this pre-order the second I saw that she was die cast instead of plastic. No idea what she'll turn out like but if she can balance mostly as good as Max Factory's figma of Drossel I'm totally cool with it.

Where's the Review?

Where’s the Review?

November 23, 2009  |  Other

I try every week to get a review in for Monday but unfortunately this week I just couldn’t manage it. Between overtime, a going away party, clubbing x2 and the premiere of Eva 2.0 I just couldn’t find the time or energy.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance

November 22, 2009  |  Anime, Entertainment

Last night I went to see the Canadian premiere of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance at The Gig Theatre in downtown Waterloo Ontario. It was part of the 9th annual Waterloo Festival for Animated Cinema, a festival dedicated to animated cinema from around the world. 10 feature length films are included in this years festival, 3 of which are from Japan and the rest from places such as Russia, Serbia, Hungary, Australia, Ireland and Sweden. It’s quite a neat little festival that has lots to see, if you’re in the area I would highly recommend checking it out.

Yen Press' Solution for Spice and Wolf

Yen Press’ Solution for Spice and Wolf

November 21, 2009  |  Anime, Entertainment

Yen Press has finally offered up their solution with regards to their English release of Spice & Wolf Volume 1. Their solution, that slip cover they offered in their magazine as a ‘gift’? Well it will now be included at participating online retailers at no extra charge as well and best of all, sans crease! I’m very happy to hear this as it’s a huge step in the right direction but I still have a big issue with it. I pre-ordered the book through Amazon long before there was even a cover released. My question, is Amazon one of the participating retailers, and if so, will my order include the slip cover? If not, this goes back to my complaint in my previous post where I said “…even if it’s a re-release with a proper cover, that doesn’t change the fact I’ve already ordered the first.”

I really hope Amazon offers it with all their pre-orders.

RE: Judging a Book by it's Cover

RE: Judging a Book by it’s Cover

November 18, 2009  |  Anime, Entertainment

A while back Yen Press released the cover they would be using for their US release of Spice & Wolf Volume 1. I like many disliked this cover, a lot. Yen Press anticipating this reaction by those who already know and like the franchise, decided to have an alternate cover they would ‘gift’ with the release of the December issue of their magazine. This wasn’t a great solution in my mind, but it was something in the right direction though there were concerns that the cover wouldn’t fit in the magazine. It seems these concerns were well founded as can be seen above.

Despite Yen Press’ poor decisions I’ve not cancelled my order for the light novel, but my faith in Yen Press has been tested and the grades are not good. With the original announcement there was hope that the slip-cover would be alright, but all hope is lost now, even with Kurt Hassler’s mention of a possible upcoming announcement from nearly a month ago. Because even if it’s a re-release with a proper cover, that doesn’t change the fact I’ve already ordered the first.

Good job Yen Press… and a thanks to Itkatsu for pointing this out to me.

November 16, 2009  |  Unreviewed Figures

Found her cheap on eBay and without thinking much of it purchased her. When she arrived I was startled by her size, I hadn't noticed that she was a 1/6th scale figure. I haven't had a chance to review her yet but will get around to her eventually!

Review: Good Smile Company's Saber Lily

Review: Good Smile Company’s Saber Lily

November 15, 2009  |  Figure Reviews

Saber Lily -Distant Avalon- is perhaps one of the more highly anticipated releases of 2009, perhaps only bested by Good Smile Company’s Black Rock Shooter. And as such I too was writhing with anticipation awaiting her eventual arrival at my doorstep. Oddly however, after arriving Saber sat in her box for quite some time which is very unlike me. Normally I tear things open immediately but with Saber I waited patiently, leaving her there, taunting me, begging me to release her, but I did not listen. Not until the end of last week did I finally muster up the strength to remove her from the box and unbind her legs and waist from the packaging.
